What percentage does Airtasker take?

From the tasker, between 12.5% and 20% before VAT, depending on their earnings tier over the previous 30 days. From the poster, a connection fee of £4.95 to £39.95 depending on the task price. On a £150 job at the entry tier the combined take is about £66.

Does Airtasker charge the customer?

Yes. A connection fee is charged when you assign a tasker, unless you hold a £49.90 annual membership.

Can you avoid Airtasker fees?

Not on marketplace jobs. Posters can buy the membership; taskers can move up a tier or rebook past clients at 1.9%. Arranging payment off-platform breaches their terms and voids their protection.

Airtasker fees explained (2026): what posters and taskers actually pay

Airtasker charges both sides of every job. Neither fee is shown prominently before you commit, which is why so many people go looking for this page. Here are the numbers as published in September 2026.

What the tasker pays

A service fee deducted from the job price, tiered by how much that tasker earned on the platform in the previous rolling 30 days:

Two things matter here. First, the tiers reset. A quiet month drops you back down, so the taskers who most need the money pay the highest rate. Second, tier eligibility also depends on your completion rate over the last 20 assigned tasks.

Repeat customers are charged at a much lower 1.9% plus a fixed fee.

What the poster pays

A connection fee, charged when you assign the task, banded by price:

Worked example: a £150 job

Poster is charged £179.95 (£150 + £29.95).
Tasker at Bronze pays 20% plus VAT, so £36 comes off, leaving £114.
The gap between what the customer paid and what the worker received is £65.95, about 37% of the job price.

At the Platinum tier the tasker keeps £127.50, so the gap narrows to £52.45, still a third of a £150 job on the poster's side of the ledger.

The fees people do not expect

Cancellation. If a poster cancels, they forfeit the connection fee. If a tasker cancels, they are charged an amount equal to the connection fee, deducted from future payouts.
Tips. Airtasker's cut has historically applied to tips as well as the job price.
Price increases. Adding money to a task mid-job does not re-trigger the connection fee, but does increase the tasker's service fee.
Randomised fee studies. Airtasker's own help centre states it runs regular randomised fee studies and may vary rates temporarily. Two taskers can be charged different rates for the same tier.

How to pay less on Airtasker

If you post more than four tasks a year, the £49.90 membership pays for itself.
As a tasker, keep your rolling 30-day earnings above a tier threshold, the jump from Bronze to Gold is worth 5.1 points of margin.
Rebook the same tasker through the platform to get the 1.9% repeat rate.
