How we research and check our guides

Last updated 6 September 2026. These documents are a launch draft and should be reviewed by a solicitor.

Our guides cover money, tax, licensing and safety. People act on them. This page sets out how they are produced and how to challenge them.

Who writes them

They are researched and written by the Taskerama editorial team. We are not accountants, solicitors or licensed trades, and we do not present ourselves as any of those. Where a question needs a professional, we say so and tell you which kind.

Where the facts come from

  • Tax and legal guidance comes from primary sources: legislation on legislation.gov.uk, HMRC and gov.uk guidance, and regulator registers such as the Environment Agency waste carrier register and Gas Safe Register. Every guide that gives regulated guidance links its sources at the foot of the page.
  • Prices come from real offers made on Taskerama, over the previous 180 days. Each price band states how many offers it is drawn from and the date it was calculated. Where we do not have enough completed work in a category to publish a real figure, the page says so and shows an editorial estimate instead. We never present an estimate as measured data.
  • Facts about other companies, including their fees, come from their own published pricing and help pages. We date every such claim, because these change frequently, and we link out so you can check the current position yourself.

Dates and corrections

Every guide shows when it was last checked. That date changes only when someone has actually re-read the guide against its sources, not when the page is edited for style. If you find something wrong or out of date, tell us. We correct errors of fact rather than quietly deleting the page, and material corrections are noted on the guide.

What we will not do

  • We do not accept payment to appear in, or to be left out of, a guide or comparison.
  • We do not publish reviews, ratings or testimonials that did not come from a real completed job on the platform.
  • We do not state a competitor's fees without dating the claim and linking to where we got it.
  • We do not use invented statistics. If we cannot source a number, we describe the thing without one.

Comparisons with other companies

Where we compare ourselves with another service we include what they do better. Comparative claims are objective and verifiable, as the Business Protection from Misleading Marketing Regulations 2008 require, and we name other companies only to identify the service being compared.
